Our popular Learn to Ride sessions are designed specifically for children aged 4+ who would like to learn how to independently ride a bike with pedals.
Children who attend our sessions gain skills and build confidence. We do this by lowering the seats and removing the pedals from the children’s bikes. This enables children to learn the skills with the reassurance of being able to put their feet on the ground if they lose their balance. This helps them to feel safe which builds their confidence. All sessions are held outdoors in a traffic free area.
This group session is for beginners who cannot currently ride a two wheeled bike unaided. Where possible we suggest children bring their own working bike and helmet. Should this not be possible or appropriate, bikes and helmets can be borrowed for the duration of the session at no extra cost. Children should bring a drink and wear weather appropriate clothing, such as a rain coat, and sunscreen if required.
The session will start will the removal of stabilisers and pedals to effectively turn the bikes into balance bikes. If possible please remove stabilisers and pedals in advance as this will speed up things at the beginning of the session. If you do manage to remove pedals please remember to bring these along to the session. If you can’t don’t worry as the instructors will have the tools to do this when you arrive. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the start of your session.
All children learn at different rates and there is no guarantee that participation will result in children riding. As a rough guide we recommend children attend three Learn to Ride sessions.
Where applicable, advertised ticket prices are inclusive of a venue levy, retained by the venue to maintain our programme of arts and entertainment.
