About Oddsocks
Oddsocks was founded back in 1989 by husband-and-wife team Elli Mackenzie and Andy Barrow and has been touring live theatre around the British Isles since then. Through boom times and recessions, pandemics and recoveries Oddsocks has adapted to change to bring theatre to a modern audience. Always conscious of the need to be cost-effective as well as creative they have always found a way to bring a mix of well-known classics and new writing to audiences.
Oddsocks have created a loyal following by delivering productions of a consistently high standard, to many venues, year after year and continue to inspire new audiences with their approach.
Elli Mackenzie – Creative Producer/Performer/Writer.
As Creative Producer for Oddsocks Elli has overseen the smooth running of the company since the late 1980’s. She is responsible for tour logistics. Her adaptations for stage include King Arthur and Jungle Book for Oddsocks 2016 & 17 and Elli has co-written original scripts for R.O.G.E.R. Radio’s The Mighty Beast and a catalogue of comedy corporate training scripts with Andy Barrow over recent years. As an actor Elli has appeared in many of Oddsocks’ summer and winter tours and is very familiar to regular
audiences as one of the founder members of the company. Elli directed an immersive theatre piece commissioned by Gucci for performance at Chatsworth House in early 2020 and has been responsible for the provision of interactive entertainment by casts of actors at the house since 2016. Her work with young people includes being a tutor for Open Door.
Elli’s new play “Motherhood” was commissioned by Jersey Arts Centre and it premiered in January 2026.
Andy Barrow – Artistic Director/Actor/Writer
A founder member of Oddsocks and responsible for directing many of their open-air and indoor productions. He has worked extensively in theatre and TV and his credits include Eastenders, The Bill, Hetty Wainthrop Investigates, Drop The Dead Donkey and many more. Andy has directed community plays in several areas of the UK, most recently “Captain Bloods Singular Circus” and “Truth and Lies” for the historic town of Belper. He has adapted classic novels for Oddsocks’ stage productions including Jane Eyre, Treasure Island and Great Expectations. Andy wrote Oddsocks’ original work “Florence Nightingale The Lady With The Hammer” which explores the life of this icon’s 90 years in 90 minutes. Premiering at Jersey Arts Centre in January 2025, it toured the UK to great acclaim in the Autumn of 2025.
